Phase-contrast x-ray imaging offers a noninvasive way to track the effectiveness of cystic fibrosis treatments. The technique, which measures the refraction of a grid pattern of x-rays passing through the lungs, may eventually find use in visualizing other soft tissues, such as the brain and heart.
