Australian groups launch Image Access Project

The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) has partnered with the Australian Diagnostic Imaging Association (ADIA) and the Australian Digital Health Agency to improve clinician access to patients' previous medical images.

The Image Access Project aims to address long-standing challenges with current arrangements for accessing medical images that are fragmented across providers in the Australian healthcare system, RANZCR said in a July 9 news release

Currently, clinicians often face difficulties in accessing prior imaging studies, which can lead to delayed diagnoses and repeat imaging. Through the new project, recommendations will be provided for government consideration to expedite the delivery of an interoperable national system, aligned with the National Digital Health Strategy, RANZCR noted
