April 18, 2018 -- Cardiac imaging is taking center stage today to commemorate this year's International Day of Radiology (IDoR 2018), to take place on 8 November.

Radiologists play an increasingly important role in cardiac care relative to coronary artery disease and other abnormalities. Imaging modalities assist in and contribute to diagnoses, workups prior to procedures, and follow-up of patient outcomes.

Cardiac CT, for example, has become a standard option for clinicians to noninvasively evaluate cases of suspected coronary artery disease by providing more information prior to novel transcatheter aortic and mitral valve replacement procedures.

Cardiac MRI also is a highly valued tool for cardiac morphology and tissue characterization for the detection of cardiomyopathies, congenital heart disease, scar tissue, and valvular heart disease.

The annual International Day is Radiology is an initiative of the European Society of Radiology (ESR), the American College of Radiology (ACR), and the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA).
