VC researchers weigh 3 iodine tagging regimens
A laxative-and-tagging regimen consisting of iodinated contrast plus a sodium phosphate mixture showed the best cleansing results among three concoctions in preparing for virtual colonoscopy exams. But a two-day regimen of iodinated contrast and a mild laxative at mealtime was better accepted by patients, according to a new study from Italy.

Most choose VC over colonoscopy, study shows
A new study from the Netherlands has found that most patients preferred reduced-prep virtual colonoscopy over conventional optical colonoscopy. Patients judged reduced-prep VC, both prep and procedure, as less burdensome, a fact the researchers hope could lead to greater compliance in colorectal cancer screening.

Brazilian team marries lung CAD with PACS
Nearly all computer-aided detection (CAD) systems in clinical use today have a major shortcoming: the need to transfer image data to a separate workstation to run CAD software, with CAD data remaining separate from the PACS images radiologists read in their normal workflow. Researchers from São Paulo may have the answer.

Dual-source coronary CTA has advantages over 64-slice
Even in patients with well-controlled heart rates, dual-source coronary CT angiography (CTA) delivers significantly higher specificity and accuracy per coronary segment compared to 64-detector-row CTA, concludes a new study from Switzerland.

Lower-kilovoltage coronary CTA maintains image quality
In a study that included all but the heaviest cardiac imaging patients, European and Japanese researchers were able to cut radiation dose by 31% in coronary CT angiography (CTA) studies by reducing the kilovoltage from 120 kV to 100 kV, with no difference in image quality.
