The Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) is coordinating a project called Quantitative Ultrasound Stochastic Tomography (QUSTom) that will develop a new imaging modality that combines breast ultrasound and supercomputing.

The new modality will serve as a complement to x-ray imaging, BSC said. It does not use radiation and will blend multimodal and 3D imaging, an innovation for ultrasound breast imaging, according to the BSC.

The project's other partners include Karlsruher Institut für Technologie, Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR), Arctur, and the BSC and Imperial College London spin-off FrontWave Imaging, as well as Imperial College London itself. It is part of the European Innovation Council's Pathfinder Open program, which is funded by the European Union's Horizon Europe Framework Program.
