Breast screening rate remains low in Greater Manchester

The National Health Service (NHS) breast screening program in Greater Manchester, England, again failed to reach its target, with only 67% of eligible participants undergoing an exam in 2018, Rochdale Online has reported.

This marks the eighth straight year in which participation fell below the goal of 70%.

"It's essential that NHS England's landmark review of screening programs provides clear recommendations to significantly improve attendance across the country," Mia Rosenblatt, assistant director of policy and campaigns at Breast Cancer Now, said in a prepared statement. "We look to the government to ensure these recommendations will be put in place and be supported with adequate resource."
