RCR supports changes in breast cancer care

The Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) is backing Breast Cancer Now's calls for the U.K. government to end variations in breast cancer care and transform the U.K.-wide breast screening program.

The groups also urge the National Health Service (NHS) England to address these issues in its long-term plan.

"The RCR wholeheartedly supports Breast Cancer Now's assertions that NHS England's forthcoming long term plan should address the U.K.'s most common cancer," said Edinburgh-based breast oncologist Dr. Frances Yuille, who is the medical director of education and training for clinical oncology at the RCR. "There needs to be clear political investment to put an end to the postcode lottery of breast cancer care, not just in England, but across the U.K. as a whole."

The RCR and Breast Cancer Now call for investment in technology and also the radiology workforce.

You can read Breast Cancer Now's briefing, titled "55,000 reasons: Why the NHS Long Term Plan must invest in breast cancer care," on the group's website.
