After a year of negotiations, the Catalan Association of Diagnostic Imaging Technicians (ACTEDI) has obtained a commitment from the Parliament of Catalonia to elevate the training status of radiographers and technicians, according to a press release from the Spanish Society of Radiology (SERAM).

Groups in the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, and Catalonia have already voiced support for changing the degree into a university degree. Now, the Spanish Ministry of Health must rule on the matter and initiate the procedures that would then need to be transferred to the Interterritorial Health Council, stated SERAM.

ACTEDI feels strongly that the current situation leaves Spanish radiographers and technicians at a serious disadvantage because their degree is the only non-university-based qualification in the European Union in the specialty.

SERAM has supported this move and has commended ACTEDI for its victory.
