Russian entities ally for nuclear medicine

Russian atomic energy firm Rosatom and the Russian Academy of Sciences are collaborating to advance nuclear medicine and nuclear energy in the country, according to an 11 February report in World Nuclear News.

The agreement was signed in Moscow last week for the partners to cooperate on joint scientific, technical, and other R&D activities that include the creation of modern diagnostic equipment, nuclear medicine, and radiation therapy. They also plan to develop laser technologies and particle accelerators and address the environmental aspects of radioactive waste management.

"The most important direction of our cooperation will be the integration of fundamental, exploratory, and applied scientific research, including in the interests of the development of the nuclear industry," said Alexey Likhachov, Rosatom's director general.
