GE Healthcare recently signed an agreement with Alliance Medical to create artificial intelligence (AI) software to increase productivity within hospital radiology departments in the U.K.

Alliance Medical will draw on multiple GE Healthcare technologies that use advanced data analytics, remote collaboration tools, and AI. The companies are also aiming to standardize protocols, minimize radiation dosage, and deliver coordinated care across multiple sites.

The partners also hope to examine data factors to help pinpoint the likelihood of people not showing up for their appointments. The initial agreement is focused on the U.K., but the companies said they look to expand into other countries and geographies.

The partnership expands upon an existing relationship between the two, which includes a 45-million-pound (53-million-euro) agreement to supply more than 70 medical imaging systems over three years. They are also developing a model for rapid diagnostic centers to speed up cancer diagnosis. Alliance also supports GE's Edison Accelerator program.
