He died of a neurological disease -- which hindered his movements but not his mind -- at the age of 78, according to a tribute written by Prof. Yves Menu, the editor in chief of European Radiology and the past president of the European Society of Radiology.

Tubiana dedicated his life's work to Saint Antoine Hospital, where he became head of clinic in 1982. In 1984, he became head of radiology service and remained in that position until 2008. Additionally, the radiologist chaired the hospital's Medical Commission of Establishment.

Furthermore, Tubiana was the president of the Collegiate of Radiologists of the Hospitals of Paris, a member the SFR's board and the National Council of Universities, and editor in chief of the Annales de Radiologie and the Leaflets of Radiology.
