In recognition of World Lung Cancer Day on 17 November, the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SERAM) has emphasized the role of medical imaging professionals in diagnosing, assessing, and treating lung cancer.

Nearly 30,000 new cases of lung cancer are likely to be diagnosed in Spain in 2021, according to the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM), underlining the need for action in this area.

To coincide with World Lung Cancer Day, SERAM has released a poster to show how the radiological community is involved in identifying lung cancer by performing and reporting chest CT scan results, as well as treatment planning.

"We participate in multidisciplinary teams to decide jointly with other specialists what is the best treatment for each patient," SERAM noted in a statement.

The country's radiologists who are experts in thoracic pathology are grouped together in the Spanish Society of Cardiothoracic Imaging (SEICAT), it stated.

Full details are available on the SERAM website.
