A new union of medical specialists, Avenir Spé, has been created following a vote held by the national federation of medical specialty unions on 12 January.

The move to establish the union has won the support of France's national union of private radiologists (Fédération Nationale des Médecins Radiologues, FNMR).

A large majority voted to create the new union, according to a statement issued by the national federation of medical specialty unions. Nearly 96% of those registered were present or represented, and the vote was carried out by secret ballot. A total of 70.7% voted for adoption of the statutes, while 29.3% were against and 0.2% of those present abstained.

Avenir Spé will recognize the role of the expertise of all independent specialists in the French healthcare system, and it calls for such specialists to join it, the statement noted.
