ESR reveals expanding U.S. membership base

The European Society of Radiology (ESR) has announced that as of 6 August 2019, 7,277 radiologists, related physicians, and scientists from the U.S. are ESR members. The U.S. now comprises the second largest national group among all ESR member countries, after India but just ahead of Brazil and France, which tops the list of European nations, according to a statement issued on 12 August.

"We have been working closely together for years, in several committees and working groups, in particular in radiation protection and clinical decision support, cooperating with RSNA and ACR [American College of Radiology] officers and other top radiologists from the United States," noted Prof. Lorenzo Derchi from Genoa, Italy, chair of the ESR Board of Directors. "We are glad that we are now increasingly attracting regular members of the American radiological community, too."

At ECR 2020, more than 40 top radiologists from the U.S. will feature as invited speakers, including Dr. Hedvig Hricak, PhD, from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City; RSNA President-Elect Dr. James Borgstede; and Dr. James Brink, radiologist in chief at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

ECR 2020 will take place in Vienna from 11 to 15 March. Abstract submission is open until 10 October.
