Inactive MRI scanner causes long delays in India

A nonfunctioning MRI scanner at Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad, India, has resulted in significant delays for patients needing to receive MRI scans, according to a report in the Times of India.

The system has been out of action for two months, forcing most patients to be redirected to another government hospital in Hyderabad: Osmania General Hospital, the Times reported.

Gandhi Hospital Superintendent Dr. Shravan Kumar told the Times that its MRI service contractor -- Faber Sindoori Bio-Medical Engineering Services -- is not conducting the needed repairs. The hospital has repeatedly taken up the issue with the government, but so far there has been no action, he said.
