RCR: Future of imaging linked to AI

The U.K. Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) believes that the future of medical imaging will be directly associated with the development of artificial intelligence (AI), according to a recent blog post by Dr. Caroline Rubin, the RCR vice president for clinical radiology.

With the potential to manage massive quantities of imaging data and metadata in just a few seconds, AI can help radiologists prioritize work lists and diagnoses, Rubin said. Currently, a variety of studies led by radiologists are designed to advance imaging AI, including trials using AI software to detect cancer nodules and model pulmonary hypertension.

The RCR looks forward to collaborating with clinicians to monitor and guide the progression of imaging AI over the coming decades, Rubin said.
