U.K. hospital deploys homegrown IT system

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust (GOSH) in London has implemented an internally developed IT system at its Children's Acute Transport Service (CATS) for referring hospitals to share medical data on emergency patients more quickly and securely.

CATS-i was developed by British software manufacturer Cimar and GOSH and tested over the past 12 months.

CATS-i features Web-based image transmission that allows the sending of medical images from any hospital in the U.K. to remote recipients, securely and reliably through an Internet browser. The images are losslessly compressed and encrypted, so patient data confidentiality is not compromised.
