In a white paper co-authored with German nongovernmental organization Friends for International Tuberculosis Relief (FIT), VinBrain details how version 1 of its AI model could be useful in Vietnam, which has the 11th highest burden of TB in the world. According to the country's National TB Control Program, the standard diagnostic algorithm that relies on verbal screening for prolonged cough would have missed approximately 62% of patients with active, transmissible TB, VinBrain said.
However, VinBrain's AI model, which has been developed using over 185,000 chest x-rays, yielded 86% sensitivity and up to 96.1% specificity for TB in testing, according to the vendor. VinBrain said it has integrated the AI model for TB diagnosis and screening into its DrAid AI software, which can now detect 21 abnormalities and diseases of the heart, lung, and bone. As a result, DrAid can now be used to diagnose TB simultaneously with other lung diseases and abnormalities, VinBrain said.
