May 22, 2012 -- A celebration of the life of the well-known international radiographer Marion Frank took place in London last Saturday. The organizing committee for the event, called "Frankly Speaking," was led by her friend and colleague, Margaret McClellan, and there was a large audience, with some people coming from afar.

The speakers included A. Stewart Whitley, treasurer of the International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists (ISRRT); Dr. Tyrone Goh from Singapore (past president of ISRRT); and Segun Adeyemi. Other speakers included Richard Evans from the U.K. Society of Radiographers and Dr. Roger Berry, former professor of radiotherapy at the Middlesex Hospital in London.

ISRRT secretary general wore his Order of the Frankfurter with great pride.

The ISRRT was well represented by past presidents and by secretary general Dr. Sandy Yule, and there was representation from the U.K. Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) and the British Institute of Radiology (BIR).

Attendees were delighted by the many stories about Frank. She helped to build the international reputation and profile of the School of Radiography at the Middlesex Hospital. Adrienne Finch, who chaired the day, has edited a book called Radiating Knowledge, the History of the Middlesex Hospital Schools of Radiography, which is an account of the development and contribution of the department.

Frank was one of a kind, and her flat in Lancaster Gate in London was always welcome to a stream of foreign visitors who took advantage of her hospitality. Those who helped with the celebration on Saturday were delighted to be presented with "The Order of the Frankfurter," which had originally been presented by Marion upon her retirement in 1980.

Radiographers and radiologists from across the world attended the event.
