June 20, 2018 -- Women's imaging firm Hologic has started selling its new Viera handheld breast ultrasound scanner in the U.S. and Europe.

Viera is designed to deliver high-resolution images directly to a smart device from the point of care to enhance clinical workflow and patient care. It can transmit images to smart devices and PACS networks in offices, exam rooms, or surgical suites, Hologic said.

The device has received the European CE Mark, as well as clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
