September 5, 2018 -- The French Society of Radiology (SFR) is sad to report the death of Dr. Francis Weill, called the "Pope of Ultrasound" by one of his students.

Weill, who died 19 August at the age of 85, chaired the European Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (EFSUMB) from 1984 to 1987, and then served as chair of the World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (WFUMB) from 1988 to 1991, according to the SFR.

The SFR's full tribute to Weill can be found on the society's website.
