COCIR supports EU revisions to cancer screening

September 20, 2022 -- The European Coordination Committee of the Radiological, Electromedical, and Healthcare IT Industry (COCIR) has welcomed the European Commission's proposed revisions to its 2003 recommendation on screening of breast, cervical, and colorectal cancers.

In particular, the COCIR said it favored the commission's proposal to extend the Council Recommendation on cancer screening to include lung, prostate, and, to some extent, gastric cancers.

"COCIR believes that the revised Council Recommendation could foster the coherent implementation of modern screening programs across the EU Member States, and therefore alleviate the significant disparities observed in the adoption of and access to cancer screening programs," the organization said in a statement.

The proposed new Council Recommendation on cancer screening can be found on the European Commission's website.
