U.K. Clinical Imaging Board issues posters for patients

May 21, 2019 -- The Clinical Imaging Board (CIB) in the U.K. has introduced a patient information poster on the risks and benefits of nuclear medicine procedures.

The poster is the first in a new series designed to inform patients and their caretakers on the radiation used during imaging studies; similar posters are also being developed for CT, general x-ray studies, dental x-ray exams, fluoroscopy, and symptomatic mammography, according to the U.K. Royal College of Radiologists (RCR). The CIB was formed in 2013 by the RCR, the Society and College of Radiographers, and the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine.

A group of clinical scientists, radiologists, and radiographers created the posters, which share the same design and can be used together or separately. The RCR said that the posters are designed to help patients have a useful discussion with their healthcare professional and to also assist hospital departments in complying with the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017 and 2018. The nuclear medicine poster can be found on the RCR's website.
