November 10, 2017 -- Compact MRI technology developer Aspect Imaging has obtained the CE Mark for its Embrace dedicated neonatal MRI scanner.

Embrace is a 1-tesla scanner that allows newborns to be scanned without having to be moved from the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Even intubated infants can be scanned without having to disconnect and reconnect the tubing, the company said. The device does not require a special safety zone or a radiofrequency-shielded room, so it can be placed inside the NICU, according to Aspect Imaging.

The system was cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in July and has been installed at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem.
