Siemens to install 9.4T MRI in Netherlands

Siemens Healthcare has won a contract to install three ultrahigh-field MRI systems, including a 9.4-tesla machine capable of imaging humans, at a Dutch university.

Maastricht University will use 3-, 7-, and 9.4-tesla scanners from Siemens for its Brains Unlimited research project.

The 9.4-tesla machine is more powerful than other MRI systems, thus helps researchers detect more details from inside the human body, Siemens said. The Dutch scientists hope to gain more insight into the causes of multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, epilepsy, and tumor growth, according to the company.

The Brains Unlimited project is an initiative from the Maastricht Brain Imaging Center, which is funded by the European Union, the province of Limburg, and the municipality of Maastricht.
