Italy may ask EMA to reconsider Dutch headquarters

Italians are making another bid to move the European Medicines Agency (EMA) headquarters to Milan, according to a Reuters news story.

On 29 January, Executive Director Guido Rasi announced a possible roadblock had appeared in the EMA's move from London to Amsterdam by March 2019 due to Brexit. The agency will temporarily occupy the "Spark" building in western Amsterdam during 2019 until the scheduled completion of a new building in south Amsterdam in 2020.

In light of the snag, a source with the Italian government told Reuters that it may ask European authorities to reconsider the move to Amsterdam and consider Milan instead, according to the Reuters article.

"The government will take all appropriate action with the European Commission and the relevant authorities to make sure that ... the decision by which Milan lost out at the draw is (reconsidered)," the source told Reuters.
