Financial details were not disclosed, other than the fact that Bruker purchased all of the company's shares. The acquisition of SkyScan is expected to add approximately 9.73 million euros ($13 million U.S.) to Bruker's revenue for calendar year 2012.

The company will continue to operate from its suburban Antwerp, Belgium location with its existing management team and staff, under the new name of Bruker microCT.

SkyScan's micro-CT instruments can be configured for numerous applications in materials research and in the life sciences, including in vivo preclinical animal imaging, in vitro bone and soft-tissue imaging, 3D imaging of electronic components, synthetic materials, new devices such as microsensors and cardio-stimulators, geological samples, fuel cell components, ceramics, and more.

Bruker stated that SkyScan's products complement its other x-ray analysis and preclinical MRI products, and fit well into its global materials market research and preclinical imaging distribution channels.
