Ireland seeks help for breast screening program

The Republic of Ireland's National Screening Service is looking for service providers to aid in its BreastCheck breast cancer screening program.

The National Breast Screening Program is establishing a network for reserve, intermittent mammography screening for BreastCheck. It is looking for service providers with suitability qualified and experienced staff who would be able to offer services periodically beginning from 2017.

Screening services will include, but will not be limited to, producing consistently high-quality digital mammography images and recording all clinical and examination details of each mammogram in line with current best practice and as directed by the program guidelines.

The framework agreement consists of three parts:

  • The provision of hospital-based reserve, intermittent capacity mammography screening services, including diagnostic x-rays
  • The provision of a designated mammography mobile screening unit
  • The provision of suitably qualified staffing resources (radiographers/mammographers) -- anywhere within the Republic of Ireland for a given period of time

BreastCheck is currently being extended, and all eligible women ages 50 to 69 in Ireland will be invited for routine breast screening by the end of 2021.
