German breast experts set to discuss U.S. standards

More than 300 experts are due to gather in Frankfurt, Germany, this weekend for a consensus meeting on breast cancer diagnosis, according to the German Radiological Society (DRG).

The meeting will deal specifically with the new U.S. diagnostic standards from the American College of Radiology (ACR) and whether German-speaking countries should incorporate the standards.

A key issue is the use of breast ultrasound, because the modality is handled differently in Germany compared with the U.S. The consensus meeting will also address breast density and digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT), also called 3D mammography.

This is the fifth time such a meeting will take place in Frankfurt.
