February 24, 2012 -- Swedish diagnostic imaging company Sectra announced that its mammography equipment with online osteoporosis screening functionality has now identified the 1,000th patient in Europe who may be at risk.

The Sectra OneScreen online service consists of taking a digital radiograph of the hand immediately after performing a mammogram, a process that takes less than 30 seconds. The image is transmitted using an Internet connection to a central facility, where an analysis of bone density is performed using Sectra's digital x-ray radiogrammetry technology.

The analysis enables the early identification of osteoporosis using bone-density measurements, and identifies women at risk for whom a bone densitometry examination is recommended, according to the vendor.
