May 2, 2012 -- BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT, and the Healthcare Information Management and Systems Society (HIMSS) have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on a project to introduce HIMSS Analytics Electronic Medical Records Adoption Model (EMRAM) within the U.K.
BCS will work with HIMSS Analytics Europe and a number of other organizations to test the suitability of the EMRAM model and to assist with any necessary modifications. A steering committee of health informatics and healthcare professionals representing healthcare providers, government health agencies, and the vendor healthcare IT community has been established.
HIMSS Analytics and HIMSS Analytics Europe currently collect data from hospitals and other healthcare delivery organizations in 25 countries. EMRAM is an eight stage model which classifies an institution's level of IT adoption. To date, 68 hospitals located throughout the world have achieved the highest ranking, stage 7 in which a hospital is fully digitized, paperless, and has a broad range of interoperability and data exchange capabilities with other organizations.
