Belgian and French groups build collaborative spirit

Two European healthcare clusters are growing a partnership to advance medical imaging and digital health.

BioWin in the Walloon Region of Belgium and Medicen Paris Région in France consist of 2,394 small- to medium-size enterprises (SMEs) and 29 multinational companies. The clusters' members collectively operate and manage some 350 projects, which received more than 2 billion euros in public and private funding.

Approximately 30 clinicians, academics, and manufacturers participated in a two-day meeting in late August to discuss current progress and future challenges in medical imaging and digital health. One immediate goal is to convene a public discussion on digital technology for healthcare in July 2018, with a long-term goal of promoting the healthcare initiatives through the year 2020.

The participants believe digital technology can significantly enhance diagnostic and decision-making tools and interactive image-sharing platforms to meet clinicians' needs in the next decade.

In addition, further events being organized by BioWin and Medicen will focus on in vitro diagnostic medicine, regenerative medicine, medical imaging, and digital health.
