Dr. Norbert Hosten receives Pomerania award

The prestigious Pomerania Nostra Award has been bestowed upon Dr. Norbert Hosten.

The award is for rendering outstanding services in the field of art, science, politics, social life, or economy of Pomerania and Western Pomerania and thus promoting the German-Polish dialogue.

On 29 October in cooperation with scientists from the Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin, Hosten was awarded the honor for his telemedicine project, "Telemedicine in the Euro region Pomerania - network." The aim is to network small hospitals in rural areas with urban clinics and optimize use of medical devices by capacity and cross-border cooperation. Under his leadership, in 2010, the EU funded the project 13 million euros. Today, a total of 21 German and 14 Polish hospitals are involved in the project.

The Pomerania Nostra Award was launched in 2003 by the universities of Greifswald and Szczecin and the two newspapers Nordkurier and Kurier Szczecinski. The cities of Greifswald and Szczecin joined the donors' circle in 2009.
