Elekta to install MR-linac in the U.K.

Radiation oncology firm Elekta and The Christie National Health Service (NHS) Foundation Trust have begun installation of an investigational high-field MR-adaptive linear accelerator (MR-linac) system at The Christie.

Elekta's MR-linac features a radiotherapy system and a high-field MRI scanner with advanced software to capture high-quality images of tumors and surrounding tissues during radiation therapy delivery.

The device also is designed to enhance targeting of tumor tissue, reduce radiation exposure to healthy tissue, and allow physicians to better target a tumor, even when tumor tissue changes shape, location, size, or composition between treatment sessions.

The Christie becomes the sixth global site to install Elekta's MR-linac system.
