Toshiba signs U.K. sports medicine partnership

Toshiba Medical Systems has launched a partnership with the Tessa Sanderson Foundation and Academy (TSFA) of London and two sports medicine centers in the U.K.

The collaboration includes Homerton University Hospital in London and the Sir Ludwig Guttmann Health and Wellbeing Centre in Stratford. It will offer athletes access to sports physicians, physiotherapy, orthopedic surgery, and imaging services, including ultrasound with Toshiba's Aplio 500 scanner. Patients will also have access to podiatric assessments; x-ray, MRI, and blood tests; and treatment for activity-related injuries, according to the firm.

Toshiba will work with the TSFA team to develop scanner applications and best-practice guidelines for the early diagnosis, improved rehabilitation, and preventive care of athletes participating in the foundation's programs in preparation for events such as the Olympics and the Commonwealth Games, Toshiba said.
