Siemens to highlight SPECT, PET upgrades at EANM

Siemens Healthineers plans to highlight updated versions of its xSPECT Quant and Biograph Horizon PET/CT systems at the upcoming European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM) meeting in Barcelona, Spain.

The new version of xSPECT Quant allows Symbia Intevo SPECT/CT users system to perform automated quantification of not only technetium-99m, but also iodine-123, lutetium-177, and indium-111, expanding the use of SPECT quantification from general nuclear medicine and bone studies to neurological disorders, neuroendocrine tumors, neuroblastoma, and metastatic prostate cancer, the company said. xSPECT Quant can also help with an emerging technique called theranostics, which uses radioactive isotopes that emit energies to image and treat disease.

As for the company's Biograph Horizon PET/CT system, Siemens has added FlowMotion technology that allows users to take PET images with continuous motion of the patient table, rather than acquiring the images with sequential bed positions. Called Biograph Horizon Flow, this new version also includes HD Chest, which has previously only been available with the company's Biograph mCT Flow system.

Biograph Horizon Flow is not yet commercially available in either the European Union or the U.S., Siemens said.
