U.K. publishes CT good practice guide

An expert working party led by the U.K. Association of Healthcare Technology Providers for Imaging, Radiotherapy & Care (AXREM) has published a practical guide for hospitals to help ensure optimum dose management and patient safety when performing CT and x-ray examinations.

The guide has been published ahead of the introduction of the new Basic Safety Standards Directive (BSSD) in the U.K. in February 2018. By standardizing medical imaging and the uptake of good practices between now and the legal enforcement of the BSSD, AXREM hopes hospitals and patients will benefit from greater efficiency and experience. The guide also addresses several concerns cited in previous reports about the use of CT.

AXREM is the trade association representing the suppliers of diagnostic medical imaging, radiotherapy, healthcare IT, and care equipment in the U.K. Its members supply most of the medical imaging and radiotherapy equipment installed in U.K. hospitals.
