U.K. acts to streamline radiation use in clinical trials

Radiation experts from the Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre (ECMC) network have launched a new system to reduce the time taken to set up clinical trials involving radiotherapy and other forms of ionizing radiation.

The ECMC is a joint initiative between Cancer Research UK and the country's four health departments. The new system offers a standardized way to ensure that patients' exposure to ionizing radiation during clinical trials remains within safe limits, Cancer Research UK noted in a statement.

All new trials involving radiation exposure across the ECMC network will now use the system as part of collaboration with the Health Research Authority (HRA), which is introducing a single-approval protocol for England's National Health Service (NHS).
