Toshiba debuts mobile CT scanner in U.K.

Toshiba Medical Systems U.K. has introduced a self-loading mobile CT scanner.

The mobile system, which employs Toshiba's Aquilion Prime 160-slice CT scanner, can be delivered and made operational in a little as 20 minutes, according to the company. Toshiba said it can be used by hospitals to maintain clinical environments and zero downtime while upgrading fixed systems, or to respond to increases in patient flow as a flexible addition to an imaging department.

The unit was designed in partnership with specialist vehicle manufacturer WH Bence. Aintree Hospitals NHS Trust recently employed the mobile system for three weeks while new permanent imaging equipment was being installed, Toshiba said.
