By AuntMinnieEurope.com staff writers

June 19, 2012 -- Finnish medical imaging vendor Planmed has entered into a research collaboration with Massachusetts General Hospital to investigate 3D imaging options for conebeam CT of the extremities.

Planmed installed its Verity extremity scanner at the hospital in February. In addition to evaluating the feasibility of the device in various applications, the research project will study the image quality, speed of examination, and diagnostic accuracy in relation to traditional equipment, according to the firm.

Planmed Verity has received the European CE Mark. It is not yet commercially available in the U.S., but Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance is pending.
