Interventional technology developer Cook Medical announced the preliminary findings from the study of its Zilver Vena self-expanding venous stent at the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE 2015) meeting in Lisbon, Portugal.
In the Evaluation of the Zilver Vena Venous Stent (VIVO-EU) study, Zilver Vena stent placement for treating symptomatic iliofemoral venous outflow obstruction led to more than a twofold improvement in vessel minimum lumen diameter, according to Cook. Stent placement has also corresponded to improved clinical symptoms based on available follow-up data.
All stents were deployed as intended in the 35 patients with symptomatic iliofemoral outflow obstruction who were enrolled in the study, and no stent was scored as difficult to deploy, Cook said. The study was presented at CIRSE 2015 by principal investigator Dr. Gerard O'Sullivan of the University Hospital Galway in the Republic of Ireland.
