A memorial is scheduled for 10 October at the Universität zu Lübeck to honor late mathematician Bernd Fischer.
Fischer, who died in July 2013, was an influential person at the Fraunhofer Institute for Medical Image Computing MEVIS and established the Project Group Image Registration in LĂĽbeck.
He devoted his work to medical image processing, particularly image registration, which combines different medical images for diagnoses, therapy, and interventions.
The Fraunhofer MEVIS Project Group Image Registration was created under Fischer's leadership in LĂĽbeck. Today, the group includes around 20 specialists in mathematical modeling and programming software prototypes.
