IBA adds to China proton therapy deal

Proton therapy developer Ion Beam Applications (IBA) will provide two additional gantry treatment rooms in an extension to its collaboration agreement with Guangdong Hengju Medical Technologies in China.

The agreement for the two rooms is worth approximately 20 million euros, according to IBA. The rooms will be outfitted with next-generation pencil-beam scanning capability, IBA said.

Under its initial collaboration agreement with Guangdong, IBA is currently in the first phase of building a proton therapy center in Guangzhou, China. That center, which will feature three rooms, is expected to open in 2017 and is worth approximately 30 million euros in revenue for IBA.
