Varian wins Denmark, U.K. ProBeam contracts

Radiation oncology firm Varian Medical Systems said it's providing its ProBeam proton therapy system and associated software to two centers under construction in Denmark and the U.K.

The company has installed its ProBeam proton therapy system at the Danish Center for Particle Therapy in Aarhus and at the University College London Hospitals (UCLH) proton therapy center. It will also supply both facilities with its Eclipse treatment planning and Aria oncology information management software, according to the vendor.

Clinical treatments at the Danish Center for Particle Therapy are expected to start in 2018. The new proton therapy center at UCLH is one of two National Health Service centers being constructed in the U.K.; the other is at the Christie Hospital in Manchester. Treatments at both facilities are expected to start in 2020, Varian said.
