IBA secures Welsh proton therapy contract

Ion Beam Applications (IBA) has signed a contract to provide a Welsh proton therapy firm with its ProteusOne compact system.

Proton Partners International (PPI) will install the system, which includes pencil-beam scanning and cone-beam CT features. The deal also includes a maintenance agreement. Both the device and the maintenance agreement are valued at between $38.7 million (35 million euros) and $44.2 million (40 million euros), IBA said.

PPI plans to build a new center where it will install the system. The company plans to begin treating patients in 2018, according to IBA.
