MartĂ­-BonmatĂ­ admitted to Spanish Royal Academy

Radiologist Dr. Luis MartĂ­-BonmatĂ­, PhD, of Valencia was admitted to the Spanish Royal Academy of Medicine in a ceremony at the beginning of this month, according to the organization.

Appointments of radiologists to the prestigious organization, which has only about 50 members, are rare.

MartĂ­-BonmatĂ­ is the director of medical imaging at La Fe University and Polytechnic University Hospital and the chief of radiology at QuirĂłn Hospital in Valencia, Spain. He is also a professor of radiology at Valencia University.

After completing his undergraduate medical training at the University of Valencia in 1983, MartĂ­-BonmatĂ­ worked as a resident at La Fe University Hospital Valencia until 1987. He then began work on his doctoral thesis, titled "MRI in the study and characterization of focal liver lesions." The thesis earned him a doctorate with excellence from the University of Valencia in 1990.

MartĂ­-BonmatĂ­ is an active member of many European scientific societies and has served as president of the Spanish Society of Radiology, the European Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and Biology (ESMRMB), and the Spanish Society of Abdominal Imaging. In addition to these presidencies, he has served as vice-president.
