RCR sends letter to health chief

The U.K's Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) has sent an open letter to the Secretary of State for Health Jeremy Hunt, who has been reappointed to the post following last week's general election.

In the document, the RCR urges Hunt to prioritize the following:

  • Address the U.K.'s chronic deficiency in imaging services.
  • Allocate resources for cancer treatment more equitably.
  • Make interventional radiology treatments available at all times to patients at risk of bleeding to death.
  • Better integrate national health services for the benefit of patients.

"The new government has the opportunity to make a real difference to patients by investing in imaging services and radiotherapy treatments, and by ensuring sufficient numbers of clinical radiologists and clinical oncologists are trained to deliver imaging and cancer treatment services," RCR President Dr. Giles Maskell noted.
