RCR lauds NHS England's proton-beam centers bid

The U.K.'s Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) welcomes the announcement that the National Health Service (NHS) England is the preferred bidder for two new planned proton-beam therapy centers in London and Manchester.

Proton-beam therapy is an effective treatment for selected patients with cancers difficult to treat by other means, and can also reduce the long-term side effects of treatment for children, the RCR said. It plans to continue to advise the NHS England Cancer Taskforce on the range of radiotherapy equipment and staffing required for the future, according to the college.
