Institute of Cancer Research joins MRI research group

Radiation oncology firm Elekta and Royal Philips, the parent company of Philips Healthcare, announced that the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) in London will join the Elekta MR Linac Research Consortium.

The consortium's mission is to develop an integrated MRI-guided radiation therapy system, the two companies said. The ICR's initial research focus for MRI-guided radiation therapy will be on pelvic malignancies.

The ICR is the sixth member to join the research consortium, which also includes the University Medical Center Utrecht in the Netherlands, the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, the Netherlands Cancer Institute-Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital in Amsterdam, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, and the Froedtert and Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center in Milwaukee.
