French therapeutic ultrasound developer EDAP TMS has launched Focal. One, a new robotic high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) device dedicated to focal therapy of prostate cancer. The product will make its debut at the annual congress of the European Association of Urology being held in Milan on 15-19 March.

Focal. One offers state-of-the-art imaging to localize tumors with the use of MRI combined with real-time ultrasound. The HIFU treatment provides precision targeting because it is focused on identified cancer areas only. Contrast-enhanced ultrasound imaging provides immediate feedback on treatment efficacy.

EDAP said that it expects to file for CE Mark approval for Focal. One in the second quarter of 2013 and pursue commercial distribution in Europe thereafter.
